Service overview

What we do, who it's for, and when it matters.

What it is

General plumbing is everything that isn't a boiler swap or a full bathroom refit — leak detection and repair, tap and mixer replacements, toilet repairs and installs, radiator changes, isolation valves, pipework alterations, mains water upgrades, stopcock replacements, outside taps and drainage issues.

Who it's for

Homeowners with an annoying drip they've been ignoring for months, landlords needing quick tenant-issue turnarounds, and anyone renovating who needs plumbing altered without ripping the house apart.

When you need it

As soon as you notice damp patches, unexplained water bills climbing, a dripping tap, a toilet that runs on, low pressure at one outlet, or a stopcock that won't turn. Small jobs stay small when they're caught early.

Why professional matters

Bad plumbing is invisible until it's expensive. Push-fit joints in the wrong place, unsupported pipework, wrong-diameter mains connections and missing isolation valves cause slow, hidden leaks that ruin ceilings and floors. A proper plumber uses the right fitting for the location — copper and soldered joints where it matters, WRAS-approved fittings, and isolation on every outlet.

The cost of leaving it

Small problems don't stay small.

The £15 washer nobody replaced becomes a £2,000 ceiling repair. The stopcock that seized because it was never exercised becomes a flooded kitchen at 11pm on a Sunday. Water damage is one of the most common and most expensive home insurance claims — and most of it is preventable.

Hidden leaks and rot

A pinhole leak on a copper joint behind a plasterboard wall can drip for months before it shows. By then, joists, insulation and skirting are already soft.

Water damage claims

Insurance companies increasingly refuse or reduce claims where the leak has been present a long time or the appliance wasn't maintained. Prevention is cheaper than argument.

Frozen and burst pipes

Unlagged pipework in lofts and outbuildings across the Pennines routinely bursts in cold snaps. The damage happens on the thaw, not the freeze.

Contaminated supply

Old lead pipework, incorrect back-flow protection, or a poorly connected outside tap can put your drinking water at risk. WaterSafe fitters know what to check.

Common mistakes we see

  • Turning off the isolation valve instead of finding the cause of a leak.
  • Using push-fit fittings under floorboards where they can't be inspected.
  • Fitting a new tap to old, corroded flexi hoses that fail six months later.
  • Ignoring low pressure instead of testing the mains and stopcock.
  • Bodging a toilet fill valve with a washer instead of replacing the unit.
  • Assuming any leak from the ceiling is 'the bathroom' — often it's a pipe run.
Our process

A tidy, engineered process — no surprises.

Every job follows the same disciplined sequence, so you always know where we are and what's next.

  1. Step 1

    Diagnose properly

We locate the actual source — not just the visible symptom — using pressure tests, moisture readings and a proper look under the boards or behind the panel where needed.

  2. Step 2

    Isolate & make safe

We isolate the affected section, protect floors and finishes, and stabilise the situation so nothing worsens while we work.

  3. Step 3

    Fix at source

Repair or replace with the correct fitting for the location — copper and soldered joints where it matters, WRAS-approved and long-life components.

  4. Step 4

    Pressure test & prove

Test under pressure, watch it, then test again. No handover on a job that hasn't proved itself watertight in front of you.

  5. Step 5

    Tidy & advise

Clean up, remove the old parts, and give you plain-English advice on what to watch and when to call us back.

What you get

Specific outcomes — not vague promises.

Fast response

Same-week appointments on most jobs, priority for existing customers, and honest booking windows — not 8am–6pm no-shows.

Right-first-time repairs

We diagnose the cause, not just the symptom, so you don't pay twice for the same fault.

WaterSafe approved

Members of the WaterSafe scheme — the national accreditation for competent water fitters, above and beyond basic plumbing training.

Fully insured

£5m public liability cover on every job. If something goes wrong, you're protected.

Clear pricing

Written quote before we start work. No surprise call-out add-ons, no vague hourly ambushes.

Tidy trades

Dust sheets, floor protection, and everything cleared away at the end. You shouldn't be able to tell where we've been except for the thing we fixed.

Leak detection and repair

We locate leaks using pressure decay testing, thermal cues and physical inspection. Copper pinholes, failed compression joints, corroded valves, split flexi hoses and cracked plastic waste pipes all present differently. We repair with the right method for the location: soldered copper on buried runs, push-fit only where accessible, and long-life braided flexis where flexibles are unavoidable.

  • Copper repipes and joint replacement
  • Concealed leak location without ripping the house apart
  • Flexi-hose replacement (a major cause of home floods)
  • Waste pipe repairs and re-runs

Taps, mixers and outlets

Kitchen mixer swaps, basin taps, bath fillers, shower valves, garden and outside taps with WRAS-approved double-check valves. We fit the tap you've bought or supply and fit — either way, we take the old one away and leave the isolation set up so the next swap is a five-minute job, not a full day.

Toilets, cisterns and macerators

Complete WC replacements, close-coupled and back-to-wall installs, concealed cistern repairs, running-water fixes, and Saniflo / macerator repairs. We size waste falls and vent runs to Building Regulations Part H, and use rubber-sealed pan connectors that actually last.

Radiators, valves and system tweaks

New radiators, chrome towel rails, TRV upgrades, powerflushing, and system rebalancing. Cold rads at the top of a run are usually a balancing issue, not a boiler issue — we fix the cause, not the symptom.

Mains upgrades and stopcocks

Old lead or narrow-bore mains water pipes cause low pressure at every outlet. We upgrade mains from the meter into the property, replace seized stopcocks, and fit accessible isolation on every fixture so future repairs are simple.

Residential vs landlord workflows

For homeowners, we book, quote and complete. For landlords and letting agents, we invoice through your preferred workflow, coordinate access with tenants, photograph completed work, and can bundle repairs alongside CP12 gas safety inspections in a single visit.

FAQs

Straight answers to the questions we hear most.

Do you charge a call-out fee?+

For scheduled jobs we don't charge a separate call-out — the price we quote is the price you pay. For genuine emergencies out of standard hours we're clear on cost before we set off.

How quickly can you come out?+

Most non-emergency work is booked within the same week. Existing customers get priority. In an emergency, call us on 07582 870312 as early in the day as possible.

How much does it cost to fix a leak?+

It depends on where the leak is and what caused it. A washer swap is minutes; a concealed copper repair behind tiling takes longer. We always give a written price before starting work.

Are you insured?+

Yes — £5m public liability cover on every job, plus WaterSafe accreditation and Gas Safe registration (636807) for anything gas-adjacent.

Do plumbing repairs come with a guarantee?+

Yes. Workmanship is guaranteed and parts carry the manufacturer's warranty. If something we've fixed fails, we come back and put it right.

Can you find a leak I can't see?+

Yes — hidden leaks are one of our most common jobs. We use pressure testing, moisture meters and thermal cues to locate leaks with minimum damage to plaster and finishes.

Do you do emergency plumbing work?+

We prioritise existing customers for emergencies within our standard hours (Mon–Sat, 8am–6pm). For an out-of-hours emergency, call and we'll advise honestly on whether we can help or whether you're better with a 24-hour service.

Do you work in bathrooms and kitchens during refits?+

Yes — we handle the plumbing side of kitchen and bathroom refits, either as part of a full bathroom installation with us or coordinating with your builder.

Which areas do you cover?+

Rochdale, Oldham, Manchester, Salford, Bury, Ashton-under-Lyne, Heywood, Middleton, Shaw and surrounding Greater Manchester areas.

Can you do a whole-house plumbing health check?+

Yes. We inspect the mains, stopcocks, isolation valves, flexi hoses, and visible pipework, and give you a written list of what needs attention now versus what can wait.
