Service overview

What we do, who it's for, and when it matters.

What it is

Full central heating work — new systems, extensions, rebuilds, power flushes, radiator and pipework upgrades, zoning and controls. Whether you're moving from an old gravity-fed system to a modern sealed system, adding radiators for an extension, or fixing an unbalanced house, we design the system to the property, not the other way round.

Who it's for

Homeowners planning an extension or renovation; anyone with cold radiators, noisy pipes, or a house that never heats evenly; landlords upgrading tired systems between tenancies; and buyers of older homes needing the heating brought properly up to date.

When you need it

If radiators are cold at the top, noisy, or slow to warm — the system needs balancing or flushing. If the boiler is being replaced, upgrading the system at the same time typically pays back within a couple of heating seasons. If you're adding rooms, the heating needs redesigning, not just extending.

Why professional matters

Central heating is a system, not a collection of parts. Skip the heat-loss calculation, the balance or the flush and even a premium boiler will short-cycle, waste gas and fail early. Get the system right and your boiler lasts longer, your bills drop and every room heats evenly.

The cost of leaving it

Small problems don't stay small.

Most 'boiler problems' are actually system problems. A modern condensing boiler dropped onto an old, sludged, unbalanced system won't last — and won't save the gas you were promised. Fix the system, fix the boiler.

Cold radiators, warm gas bill

An unbalanced system heats some rooms and starves others. The boiler runs longer to compensate, so gas bills stay high while comfort stays low.

Sludge kills heat exchangers

Untreated systems build up magnetite sludge that erodes pumps, blocks radiators and destroys heat exchangers — the single biggest cause of premature boiler failure.

Banging, kettling, air locks

Poor pipework, no air separators, no balancing and no chemical dose leads to noise, cold spots and repeated pressure loss.

Extensions on the wrong pipework

Adding radiators to under-sized flow-and-return pipework starves the far end of the house. It usually shows up the first cold snap after the work's done.

Common mistakes we see

  • Fitting a new boiler onto an old, un-flushed system.
  • Extending pipework without redoing the heat-loss calculation.
  • Skipping magnetic filters, air separators and chemical dose.
  • Replacing radiators without balancing the whole system.
  • One thermostat for the whole house instead of proper zoning.
  • Using microbore pipework where flow rates need standard bore.
Our process

A tidy, engineered process — no surprises.

Every job follows the same disciplined sequence, so you always know where we are and what's next.

  1. Step 1

    Survey & heat-loss calc

Room-by-room heat-loss calculation, existing pipework and radiator survey, controls audit and mains pressure test — before we quote anything.

  2. Step 2

    System design

We size radiators to each room, design pipework to actual flow rates, choose the right zoning and controls, and specify filtration and chemical dose.

  3. Step 3

    Written itemised quote

You get a written, itemised fixed price covering boiler, cylinder, radiators, pipework, controls and any building work. No vague ranges.

  4. Step 4

    Install, flush & commission

New pipework, radiators and controls fitted, full power flush and chemical dose, magnetic filter and air separator added, system balanced.

  5. Step 5

    Handover & aftercare

We walk you through the controls, hand over the benchmark logbook and set up annual service reminders — so the whole system stays healthy.

What you get

Specific outcomes — not vague promises.

Even, quiet heat

Correctly sized radiators, balanced flows and proper controls mean every room hits temperature — no cold spots, no banging, no lukewarm rads.

Lower gas bills

A well-designed, well-controlled system typically cuts gas use significantly versus an old un-balanced one — often more than switching the boiler alone.

Longer boiler life

Filtration, chemical dose and proper commissioning protect the heat exchanger and dramatically extend boiler life.

Zoning that works

Multi-zone controls with TRVs, weather compensation and smart thermostats — heat only the rooms you're using, when you're using them.

Extension-ready

Systems designed so radiators can be added later without starving the rest of the house.

One team, whole system

Boiler, cylinder, pipework, radiators, controls and underfloor — one Gas Safe team responsible end-to-end.

New central heating systems

For new builds, full renovations and system rebuilds we design the whole thing from scratch — heat-loss calculations, radiator sizing, pipework routing, zoning strategy, controls specification and cylinder choice.

  • Combi systems for smaller homes with one bathroom.
  • System boiler + unvented cylinder for multi-bathroom family homes.
  • Regular (heat-only) systems for vented layouts and larger properties.
  • Hybrid systems combining radiators and underfloor heating.

Power flushing and system cleaning

For sludged, noisy or under-performing systems we carry out full power flushes with the right chemical dose, then fit magnetic filters and air separators to keep the system clean. Power flushing is often the difference between a boiler that lasts 6 years and one that lasts 15.

Radiator upgrades and rebalancing

Old, under-sized or badly-placed radiators are a common cause of cold spots. We resize using proper heat-loss figures, refit with TRVs, and rebalance the whole system — usually a same-day job with a noticeable difference before the engineer leaves.

Zoning and controls

Modern zoning — with TRVs on every radiator, weather compensation and a smart thermostat — heats only what you're using, when you're using it. See our smart heating controls page for detail; on new systems we specify controls as part of the design.

Underfloor heating and hybrid systems

Wet underfloor heating integrates with the same boiler and cylinder as radiators, either as the whole system or a hybrid (e.g. UFH downstairs, radiators upstairs). We design manifolds, zoning and controls together — see the underfloor heating page for detail.

FAQs

Straight answers to the questions we hear most.

How much does a new central heating system cost?+

It depends on property size, radiator count, pipework routing, cylinder choice, controls and zoning. We give a written itemised price after a survey rather than a range on the phone.

How long does a full central heating install take?+

A typical whole-house new system is one to two weeks depending on property size and access. Boiler-only swaps with a system flush are usually one to two days.

Do I need a power flush?+

If your radiators have cold spots, the system is noisy, or you're fitting a new boiler onto an older system — usually yes. We survey first and only recommend it where it'll genuinely help.

Can you extend my heating for an extension?+

Yes — but properly. Adding radiators to under-sized pipework starves the rest of the house. We recalculate heat loss and check flow rates before quoting.

Do you fit unvented cylinders?+

Yes. We fit and service mains-pressure unvented cylinders (G3 qualified) as part of full central heating installs or as standalone hot-water upgrades.

Can I control the heating from my phone?+

Yes — we specify smart thermostats and multi-zone controls as part of the system design. See our smart heating controls page for detail.

Do you do the plastering and tiling too?+

We handle the plumbing, gas, pipework and controls end-to-end. For plastering, tiling and joinery we bring in trusted trades we've worked with for years, coordinated by us.

Is the work guaranteed?+

Yes. Every job carries a 12-month workmanship guarantee, on top of any manufacturer warranty on parts we fit.

What areas do you cover?+

Rochdale, Oldham, Manchester, Salford, Bury, Ashton-under-Lyne, Heywood, Middleton, Shaw and surrounding Greater Manchester areas.
